About Otis Redding
Forty years after his passing, the legacy of Otis Redding remains stronger than ever. As the decades have gone by since December 10, 1967 when the world tragically lost one of its greatest soul singers, the power and impact of this Georgia-born R&B pioneer’s music and career shows no signs of diminishing. Through a recorded legacy that spans a mere six years but is filled with classic after classic, the man whose distinctive music influenced British rock stars and his American soul music peers alike continues to be accorded and afforded the global recognition and (borrowing the title of one of his most enduring compositions)“respect” he richly deserves. The King of Soul...Otis Redding

Hi.my name is Colleen Cary and I have been a big fan of Otis’s from the time I can remember…I was teased alot because I wasn’t that interested in the Beatles etc….I loved Otis Redding and the Bar-Kays…I was just a kid when the plane went down…(cried for days…).
Now years have passed (I was born in 1956 fyi…) I still love Otis..I live in St. Paul. Minnesota and it has been raining all day.. I was recovering from chemotherapy and I wanted some “comfort” music so I dug out all my “Otis” stuff…and it was a cool day so I had my windows open…3 people actually knocked on my door to ask what I was listening to…(I tried not to play it too loud…though I wanted to) so I was really surprised…(happily) ..What a legacy he has left behind…and looking at this website….what a wonderful family! The older I become the more respect I have for Otis…he seemed like such a nice man…who valued the IMPORTANT things…Thankyou for giving back to the community I have a limited income but the minute I have extra I’m coming back to donate to the “Big O Foundation”! God bless….Colleen

  2. I am a diehard fan of Otis. Until I lost my personal belonging in a storage company, I had every album of Otis. My wife who is deceased, really loved Otis as well. It may sound stupid, but back in the days, we would listen to Otis before we went to bed, while in bed, when we rise in the morning, when we come home from work. You could say that we addicted to his soulful, romantic, and realistic singing.

My wife and I went into mourning for months and performed research on Otis’ life after the accidents. It wasn’t until after his death that we really got to know a lot about Otis. I guess we took him for granted and just love to do everything to the sound of his music. Our sympathetic and condolences continues to go out to his lovely wife and family.

May his legend and songs live forever in our hearts and memories as we continue to enjoy his sound.

    God bless,

    Milton
